And What Do You Do?
25th November 2009

Confused about what we do?
Sometimes people are a little confused as to what we actually do as a business.
A surprising fact to admit you may think; but I have found that some customers only see us as their web designers, some only know us as their SEO people and some client’s only see us solely as a source of expertise when it comes to social media.
This perception is often determined by how long the client has worked with us and on what basis, our business relationship was initially set-up.
For example, client’s that have been with us for a number of years; initially came to us looking for web design and web hosting services as this was our core business at the time. So that’s what they have come to know and love us for. However, as time has progressed our services have diversified into other areas yet such historical clients still perceive us as their “web designers”.
More recent clients that have been along to our workshops perceive us differently and don’t even know that website design and development not to mention the post launch online marketing services we offer; form part of our portfolio.
There’s nothing wrong with these view points as all perceptions are correct! Yet confusion and misunderstanding still exists amongst our clients as to what we actually do.
From any businesses perspective this is not good as I’ll wager that we are missing out on new opportunities with our existing clients as a result. Conversely, because client’s may not be aware of what we can offer them above and beyond the current services we provide; they could be missing out on potential growth or cost saving opportunities for their own organisations.
A Clearer Message

iNet Engineers becomes iNet inSights
So it’s time for a clearer message I think!
As a business our model has changed significantly over the last 12 months with many new services such as consultancy, workshops and one-to-one coaching now in our product portfolio. Yet I don’t feel we’ve communicated this effectively to our clients.
So some action is needed which involves communicating a clearer message to our clients of what we do, what’s in it for them and how we are set-up as an organisation.
Communications Strategy
Consequently, if you’re a client of iNet’s, over the next few weeks; you’ll start to hear about some key changes that are being rolled out. These changes have already started and include:
- A change of trading name from iNet Engineers to iNet inSights. A rebrand if you like, which has already involved tweaking of the logo and a new office stationery print run. Dropping the “Engineers” aspect from our name in favour of the “inSights” with a new strap line is more reflective of what we now do.
- Modifying our website copy to reflect our new services and business model which is now based upon a consultancy model rather than an “agency” one.
- Modifying the various (and numerous) online profiles we have for iNet and myself so that they reflect the new branding and service portfolio.
- Emailing and writing to all our clients detailing the changes and what it means for them.
- Announcing the changes to our associates, partners and networking associates.
Getting the Message Across
It is anticipated that this message will be communicated to all our clients before Christmas, with a follow-up campaign by email being broadcast early in the New Year to reinforce the message.
Time to crack on!
Busy, busy, busy!
