Business is Tweet

Business is Tweet

The phenomenon that is Twitter often forms the basis of entire conversations that I have with my clients and the business owners I meet when I go about my daily work.

Questions ranging from “what is it?”, “what’s the point?” and even “is it safe?” have formed the basis of many a chat.

So for the doubting Thomas’ out there, I was pleased to find an article in Natwest Bank’s Business Sense magazine about the virtues that the micro-blogging platform has for the small and medium sized business owner.

The magazine reports on a survey conducted by O2, which states that in excess of 70,000 small and medium companies in the UK, are now using Twitter for purposes related to their businesses.

The report goes on to say that the some users are saving up to £5,000 on marketing and recruitment costs as a result of their Tweeting activity. 42 per cent of the companies questioned said they used Twitter to stay in touch with suppliers and clients with 28 per cent of companies admitting that Twitter allowed them to keep in touch with other SMEs in real time and helped to boost business confidence.

So there you have it. If further evidence were needed of the effectiveness of Twitter as a business communication and marketing tool, then you need look no further.

The Twitter bird image used above is a cool piece of original design work by Chris Wallace. Visit his site for more Twitter icons.
