We’re Taking Our Bat and Ball Home!

24th February 2009

A little while ago we were lucky enough to win a new contract from one of our competitors. The management and improvement of a website for a high profile firm of Yorkshire solicitors.

What this project involved was migrating the client’s existing website from their current developer’s hosting, building in some new features (such as a blog and an improved email subscriber module) and deploying a more sophisticated and easier to use, content management system (CMS) that would give the client more control over their site.

However, the design was to be kept the same and not modified to any large degree as the client liked it and felt it fitted in well with their offline branding. To be honest we agreed, however it’s not always easy to make an existing site fit in with a CMS but we’re always up for a challenge so off we went.

However as the project progressed, it became apparent that the site’s existing developers we’re not happy at losing the project. First of all there was the difficulties in getting their site’s FTP details from them. Then requests, through the client I may add, for images fell on deaf ears.

Clearly these guys were sore about losing the job. But hey! All’s fair in love and war, get over it and grow up is what I say!

The latest issue to arise came about when I checked my emails this morning. In there was one from the client pointing this page out where their website should be:

At this stage we are still working on their revamped site and haven’t migrated the client’s site-domain to our servers. So where this page is, there should be the client’s existing website.

The thing is, the client has received no warning of this impending shut-down. Nothing!

Clearly the site’s existing people have taken further umbrage and have decided to take their bat and ball home in a big way.

Is that really a way to carry on in business? Particular when the client is a solicitor? Gulp!

What do you think?
